Guide to Managing Legal Holds: for IT Professionals
You're in IT, and you got a legal hold notice for Slack data, outlining what you need to retain and preserve and why. What do you do now?
ViewExport makes your unreadable JSON Slack export archives easy to review. Get the answers you need fast, whether you're aiding an internal investigation or getting answers to HR or Legal to support eDiscovery.
Legal and IT teams hit walls fast: native date range filtering is faulty, no way to search across DMs or private channels without triggering "joined channel" alerts, and trawling through raw JSON files takes hours of manual effort.
Filtering Slack messages by date range isn’t easy natively—making legal holds, audit prep, and early case assessment slow and error-prone.
Joining private channels triggers alerts and raises red flags in sensitive HR, compliance, or internal investigations.
Parsing Slack’s JSON exports eats up billable hours and internal IT time before legal review even begins.
ViewExport turns Slack export files into a human-readable, searchable interface: no setup, no engineering time. Help your team respond faster to DSARs, investigations, and ESI production requests, while preserving metadata and privacy.
Uncover every Slack message tied to sensitive topics or personnel—fully scoped, time-bound, and defensible. No digging through JSON file folders, no risk of missing key evidence, no delay.
The implementation timeframe is "as soon as your upload finishes". And there's no complex software your team has to learn. It's simple, secure, and powerful.
ViewExport is designed with strict security, access controls, and audit trails to meet your legal, IT, and compliance standards.

You can upload anything that is included with the .ZIP file that contains your .JSON exports from Slack. If those files contain private channel data, they'll be searchable in ViewExport as well. However, we can't help you get data that Slack doesn't already give you.
There's no implementation required: ViewExport is as easy as setting up an account, and uploading a .ZIP file. That said, we're happy to walk you through configuration and best practices.
We take security seriously and serve organizations around the world. Here's our full security overview.
